La Giostra Entrance |
La Giostra (The Carousel) is an adorable cozy restaurant on a quiet street near the Duomo. The ambiance is amazing with twinkle lights decorating the ceiling, real candles on the table providing the perfect amount of soft lighting, and the faint sound of American classic rock n roll from the 1960s and 1970s; this could not have appealed to me more! As soon as we arrived, they opened for service and treated us as if we were family. You will need a reservation which you can conveniently make online as there are only about 18 tables total. Adorning the walls are pictures of celebrities and bottles of wine.

Real candles add to the romantic vibe |
As soon as we were seated, a glass of Prosecco and an appetizer of croquettes, bruschetta and pate were offered on the house. A free glass of Prosecco is a great way to start a meal! Our waiter was wonderful and patient enough to explain the menu in English and offer recommendations. Since truffles are in season, of course we ordered truffle and burrata cheese stuffed ravioli as well as pear stuffed pasta to start. I have to tell you, both were delicious however the truffle and burrata ravioli was the best thing I have ever eaten in my entire 37 years! Seriously, our entire week in Florence all we did was think about that dish! We definitely started off our trip on a high.

Truffle & Burrata Ravioli |
For the main course, I choose to stick with truffles and order the truffle topped filet, with carrots and potatoes on the side. I'm sure you think I am exaggerating but the carrots tasted like candy. They were so sweet and delicious. And the filet with truffle just melted in my mouth! My husband ordered the sea bass and it was cooked to perfection. I don't know how Italians can eat so much and stay so skinny as we had to ask to take the rest of the meal home. I didn't want to miss out on dessert though (it's my favorite) so I ordered a fig cheesecake to go. I'm kind of a cheesecake connoisseur, and this version was great. I would say it was second on my list of all time favorite cheesecake, only next to my own. The fig complemented the cheese perfectly.
Over all, five out of five stars for La Giostra! The service was very attentive but not too overbearing which was great. The atmosphere is really wonderful and romantic. The food is exceptional and I highly recommend you try if you have the chance to visit Florence. Thank you for a great meal La Giostra! We will be back!
